DSA (S) Aqua Fitness & Water Safety Programme creates opportunities for our members aged 16 years and below to experience a good full body workout without the strenuous effect on land. This programme aids in improving our member’s cardiovascular conditioning, strengthening of their muscles, endurance, posture and flexibility through the use of water. Done mostly vertically and without swimming. This is all conducted in an indoor shallow and heated pool environment.
Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba (often referred to by his title ‘O Sensei’ or ‘Great Teacher’). Aikido focuses not on punching or kicking opponents, but rather on using their own energy to gain control of them or to throw them away from you. DSA (S) Aikido program began on 7 May 2016. It was started by Mr Patrick Chan and Mr Shamus Chan, a pair of father and son. Mr Patrick is also a parent of two children with Down syndrome, where one of them, Mr Sean, is an assistant instructor for their classes.
The Zumba program is a new program which was incepted on the 6th of May 2017. The program is conducted by Ms Pansy Lau who is a registered fitness instructor with the Ministry of Education and has been teaching a wide genre of dance and fitness classes for over 10 years.
DSA (S) Zumba program provides a full body workout for our members, touching on almost every muscle and joint. Zumba allows our members to perform cardio and practice muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility. Pansy guides our members in moving and dancing to energetic music and choreographies in genres such as hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue and mambo.
Bowling is a popular sport amongst our members. Our skilled coaches, Mr. Tan Kim Joo, Mr. Daniel Chang, who conduct our classes at the Singapore Recreation Club, and Mr Richard Tan Sok Pin who conducts our classes at the Civil Service Club, Tessensohn Road, work on techniques of bowling and prepare participants for competitive events.
